"But godliness with contentment is great gain, for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world." 1 Timothy 6:6-7
"Learn to be content in the season you are in" are wise words that I've heard over and over through the years. But what does that mean, what does that look like?
Google dictionary defines content as "a state of happiness and satisfaction"
How do we stay Godly and satisfied through any season that we face? Well, we absolutely can't do it in our own strength. But I think in order to be truly content, to be truly satisfied in any season is to first and foremost find our satisfaction in Christ. How do we do that? Well where do you find your joy deeply rooted in? What Jesus secured on the Cross, or how much money you have in your savings account, or if you've found yourself married, or if you find your intelligence affirmed by your peers?
Avoiding comparison and being thankful for what God has graciously blessed you with is important, but if our ultimate desire is not found in pursuing Christ we will be let down when the things that we are actually pursuing either let us down or never come to pass.
At the end of the day, we have to come face to face with the fact that we did not deserve the grace of being saved from our sin but Christ chose to love us anyways. By enjoying and pursuing Christ above fleeting things that are not eternal; we will become familiar with the great gain that godliness and contentment bring.
